Sherri is the author of Kate’s Story , a journal detailing the 126 days spent in the neonatal intensive care with her first child. A story of inspiration, love and hope for a child born much too soon and much too small. Weighing 1 lb, 7 ozs. at birth and measuring 11 inches long, Kate was 4 months premature. Her twin brother did not survive. Sherri shares Kate’s story in hopes it will inspire other parents suffering the same fate. Published by Hill Street Press in Athens, GA, Kate’s Story will be available in May 2008. Proceeds benefiting the March of Dimes
The Goggin family shared Kate’s heroic story with a national audience after being selected as the 2007 March of Dimes WalkAmerica video family. Sherri is founder of the Bundles of Joy gift bag program for families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu). During her reign as Mrs. Georgia, Sherri turned an idea into reality and delivered these homemade gift bags to families in NICUs across the state. A host of volunteers make fleece blankets, donate teddy bears, children’s books and sock babies for these families. “Bringing sunshine and love to families whose shoes I’ve walked in fills my heart“, says Sherri. Bundles of Joy is in the process of obtaining its 501- C3 status.
A desire to recognize and celebrate children born prematurely led Sherri to assemble a group of passionate volunteers and create the Fairytale Tea and Fashion Show (September 2006). Former preemies took center stage modeling outfits from Tigerlily Kids boutique and shared their courageous stories in a keepsake program. A silent auction, craft stations and kid friendly luncheon were all part of this touching event held at Athens Country Club. Over $8,000 was raised for the March of Dimes! A second Fairytale Tea is in the works for 2008! In her free time, Sherri enjoys league tennis and volunteering with the children’s ministry at First United Methodist Church |
